UMF is an open, active and engaged partner in the community, not an ivy-towered, gated-off college campus - the students and staff contribute to the rich social, cultural and educational fabric of the area. UMF adds a distinctive college town atmosphere to the Farmington community. Franklin County Community College Network is a networked approach to higher education and training that's both affordable and accessible. Businesses and nonprofit organizations collaborate to help bring classes and courses to Franklin County to meet the needs of both residents and businesses. The Network works with the Maine Community College system to bring community college courses to greater Franklin County. Students interested in earning a degree can take some courses locally, earning credits directly from the Maine Community College system towards a degree from Central Maine Community College. The Network also works with local businesses to determine what types of training are needed and organizes the specialized training sessions in Franklin County and Livermore Falls. This ensures that businesses can find the skills they are looking for in the local workforce. With multiple sites offering classes and with a variety of course offerings, accessing higher education opportunities through the Community College System in Franklin County is now a reality. |

New Restaurant Opens Its Doors
Mill St. Cafe is Jay/Livermore Falls' newest business. Owners Mary Howes and Tim DeMillo have created a local eatery with lots of local flavor - the restaurant is housed in the former Wausau Paper Mill and showcases its rich history and architecture.

Commissioners Approve TIF Applications
Applicants with projects in the Unorganized Territories of Franklin County were given approval by the Commissioners. Funded projects ranged from rescue equipment to scenic byway improvement. Awards also went to residents of the UTs that were seeking scholarships for education.

Board Approves Site Plan
Planning Board members voted to approve a site-plan review application to restore and improve the Lamb Block building on Depot Street in Livermore Falls. The mixed-use commercial building will potentially house the HealthReach health center, as well as retail and office space.

Grand Opening of Medical Center
The $4 million, 13,500 sq. ft. Androscoggin Valley Medical Arts Center is officially open! Senator Susan Collins, who spoke at the ribbon-cutting, remarked that it is "truly a celebration" for Livermore Falls.

Boralex Purchased by ReEnergy
ReEnergy Holdings, LLC. has purchased five Boralex biomass-to-energy facilities, including two in Franklin County: Livermore Falls and Stratton. ReEnergy produces biomass energy by using forest waste products.

Geneva Wood Fuels Receives Grant
Geneva Wood Fuels, LLC of Strong was one of three Maine businesses to receive more than $11,000 in USDA Rural Development funds to support the production and availability of advanced biofuels.

Livermore Falls Awarded Grant
Livermore Falls Town Manager Kristal Flagg told Selectmen that the town's Communities for Maine's Future grant application has been accepted, awarding $400,000 to use to redevelop the Lamb Block on Depot Street.
Established in 1864 as Maine's first public institution of Higher Education, UMF is one of Maine's selective public liberal arts colleges offering quality programs in teacher education, human services, and arts and sciences. Featured in Student Success in College: Creating Conditions that Matter, published by the American Association for Higher Education, UMF was recently recognized as one of the 20 model universities, cited as an "especially instructive example" of a school that is "committed to maximizing student potential so that students leave college different in desired ways." UMF was one of the only two New England colleges to be recognized.
