Mary Howes Wins 2013 Governor's Award for Business Excellence
Mary Howes, co-owner of Howie's Welding and Fabrication, Inc. in Jay, Maine was presented the Business Excellence award by Governor LePage on May 3rd at the Hall of Flags. The award is given annually to nominated for-profit companies that are dedicated to providing exceptional goods and services, and supporting their customers, employees, and the community at large. New Cafe Bakery Opens in Wilton
Carla Ray Fitch has opened Ray Ray's Cafe and Sweet Treats in Wilton, which offers homemade breads, cakes, and sweet treats, as well as breakfast and lunch items. Maine Attorney General Janet Mills Named 2013 Woman of the Year

New Businesses Open in Livermore Falls!
Planning board members have approved the opening of a towing and impounding lot on Cedar Street, as well as a mechanic and heavy equipment business - Doug's Diesel Repair - on Fayettte Road. The former Donna's Country Kettle convenience store will also be reopening in the coming weeks as My Friend's Place.

MDOT Plans Rt. 4 Reconstruction
A 1.25 mile section of Rt. 4 in Jay, running approximately from Pineau Street to Tweedie Street, will be reconstructed in 2014. The plans include wide travel lanes, paved shoulders, sidewalk, and granite replacement curbing. Fee acquisition will pay residents for any sections of land used for the road.

Downtown Development Plan Approved
Selectmen have approved a final draft of the Farmington Downtown Development Plan. The plan includes additional parking, as well as infrastructure and brick-and-mortar projects, such as a recreational bridge. It was also suggested that volunteers join together to help coordinate events, local campaigns, and signage. The plan will be reviewed annually.

Verso Paper Corp. Awards Grant to PalletOne
Verso Paper Corporation recently announced that PalletOne in Livermore Falls, Maine has been awarded a Verso Forest Certification Grant for their commitment to sustainability and production of quality wood products. The grant will allow the PalletOne mill to seek independent Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (COC) certification.
